Hearts for Kids is a new program initiative of Northwest Leadership Foundation that offers before, during, and after school programming in four (4) local elementary schools serving over 370 students. We pride ourselves in being a bridge between our schools and our community. Our goal is to match the needs of our schools with the generosity of our community. The Hearts for Kids programs provide a safe place within the schools empowering the children to become well-rounded students through academics as well as social interactions. The students transition immediately from their school day to our after school program where they have a nutritious snack followed by a 15 minute recess. They then move into an hour long structured activity. These activities consist of math, reading (to include drama), science, art, choir, dance, team sports, volunteerism (Through making holiday tray cards for St. Joseph’s hospital 300 patients and visiting the residents of Harbor View senior assisted living center) as well as a variety of other skill building activities. With the generous and nurturing support of our community volunteers, dedicated high school students and caring parents, we are able to provide our students with personalized learning opportunities that measurably enhance their academic abilities, improve their physical fitness, and increase their self-esteem. Hearts for Kids strives to produce caring, productive community members.
